Masti - the Band
Bringing you Bhangra and Bollywood bangers!
Masti are a blend of youth and experience - the re-birth and evolution of the wildly popular 90s Bhangra band "Nayi Roshni", together with one of the children (now an adult!) performing alongside! Amjad and Surinder fronted Nayi Roshni, supporting the likes of Alaap, DCS, Heera, Apna Sangeet, Pardesi, Holle Holle, Azaad, Premi and more, before pursuing different projects. Amjad wrote and produced the music for two hit albums for Nayi Roshni and Zabardast – which both reached the top 3 in the UK Asian music charts and were international hits from Singapore to Canada! Surinder meanwhile continued full-time in music as a dhol player, DJ and live sound engineer.
They have been joined by Aamir, a talented keyboard player and versatile musician who also runs an extremely popular DJ roadshow, having DJ’d with a host of celebrities (see Masti's DJ page for more info). He has a First Class Degree in Music Production and Sound Engineering.
Masti perform a selection of Bollywood and Bhangra bangers - and even some English tunes too which they "Bhangra-fy"! They mash things up, switching instruments mid-performance and get the crowd interacting. Masti strive to be “different” and bring real creativity.
Since headlining the Eid Mela at Nottingham's Wollaton Park (see video snippets below!) they are going from strength to strength. They are also highly experienced sound engineers, taking control of live sound on multiple occasions for the the legendary “Tubsy” (arguably the greatest ever pioneer of British Punjabi music) and providing live sound, DJ backing and backing vocals for some of the biggest global names in Bhangra - Malkit Singh, Lehmber Hussainpuri, JK, Silinder Pardesi, Steven Sahota, AS Kang, Bhujhangy, Saini Surinder amongst other huge names.
